VISAS

All foreign visitors to India must possess a valid passport and an Indian visa. A visa is readily available from any Indian Consulate. In countries where there is no diplomatic mission, normally the British Consulate issues visas. Please ensure that you obtain a multiple entry visa if you are planning to travel to Nepal, Sri Lanka or Bhutan. Indians holding a foreign passport would also have to obtain an Indian Visa to enter the country.

CUSTOMS

Indian Customs are courteous to people with tourist visas, though the rules and regulations may vary from time to time. Generally free allowance includes all personal belongings. The export of antique items is not permitted.

CURRENCY

There are no restrictions on import of foreign currency into India, provided it is declared at the time of entry. The amount declared on entry can be taken out. Import and export of the Indian Rupee is illegal.

HEALTH

A certificate for inoculation against cholera is recommended. Yellow fever inoculation certificates are required by those arriving from endemic areas.

SPECIAL PERMITS

Tourists visiting restricted areas in India like Sikkim, Lakshdweep, Andamans and certain parts of Arunachal Pradesh require special entry permits from the Government of India. Special permits are also required from the Government of India and Bhutan Missions for visiting Bhutan. Appli-cations for such permits should be sent at least 8 weeks before the planned tour.

CLOTHING

Woolens are required while visiting North India and  certain parts of Eastern India during the winter months (October to February). Tropical and cotton clothing will be sufficient throughout the year for the rest of India.

AIRPORT TAX

The Government of India levies an airport tax at the point of departure.

GUIDES

English speaking guides are provided with all sightseeing tours organised by Journey Masters. French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian, & Chinese language speaking guides can be provided if sufficient notice is given.

India boasts of the finest and most luxurious hotels in the world. The category of your hotel would depend upon your selection. Journeys Masters would however select the best possible hotel in whatever category you choose.

CITY NAMES

In recent times some Indian cities have undergone a name change. Some of the major changes are: Madras has become Chennai, Bombay Mumbai, Calcutta Kolkata and Cochin is now Kochi.
