Covelong is a nice beach, with a small fishing settlement, between Madras & Mahaballipuram. It was originally a Port built by Nawab Saadat Ali of Carnatic. Covelong was where the French General Laboudonnais landed his troops in 1746. This port was later taken by Clive of the East India Company and destroyed in 1752.

The beach is separated from themainland by a canal that runs from Madras to Mahaballipuram. Covelong is an essential stopover for people who love beaches and are travelling in the vicinity of Madras (now Chennai)
